Home working overkill.

We’ll get to that, I think the web is also becoming an addiction! Disclaimer to all you Moose fans, I’m going to mention the b word, burnout, something we are all in danger of in this profession, I’m meant to be doing something more gratifying with this free time like some prep for a class at the college, some kind of drypoint etching… but I’m not feeling it. I’d rather continue to put a bit of work into the web page, and I’m quite pleased with this so far. It will be a challenge but we’ll get there, and I’ll have a new print, on wednesday ready for the lesson ahead, not as simple as it looks. The reading material is helpful a book on printmaking techniques by Judy Martin. The actual etching will take some time, there it is the catch, a true catch 22 about selfish 20’s consumerism. Now that we went in confidently but there was a little mix up, and in any event we have no work for the next session as such although I will attend, it isn’t what anybody expected. There’s just something odd about doing homework and creepy almost after such a long hiatus. So for my part I’ll conjure something it won’t conquer the world, so we run the risk of feeling a little let down, and that is just not a thing so close to the start of an arts career. Other shows such as Grayson’s Art Club emphasize the role of the individual dilettante over the need for pure self expression, having fun rather than being too concerned about the end result. I try not to worry about those details also, I realise now I enjoy art mainly for superficial reasons, and that is progress, but kind of something else also. Pedantry is not polite but we’ve got to that stage and it’s that sort of subject, and I did not expect that to be an issue, like the beaux-arts was circa Poussin.

Okay I’ve found something out, the textbook, that could help us here, it’s all a reflection of pure bravado, you know? Not the language though the library is the key! I’ll learn more if I read the books, I think that, and it’s fine not for me, but okay. I have to tread carefully cause on this mission impossible deja vu is probable, you know lack of original work, a bugbear for my way of understanding art, just original or highly derivative on which side do you stand, are you able to ‘say something’ to the audience, I think that is what my work is about, specifically. Danger, could be from another artist’s studio or there could be a gap, and it could be from the course also, but art concrete.
